August 2005 – Annika’s visit

August sped by with boat jobs, delightfully interrupted with a visit from a young Dutch friend, Annika Brouwer. Annika used to work with Ann in San Francisco, and though she's since moved back to Holland, she has kept in touch with us all along the way. With 37 paid holidays per year (!!), she had some time to devote to a visit with us, so she flew to Greece, and ferried over to Turkey to stay with us for a while.

We had one of our best sails with Annika on board (see speedo), from Marmaris to Fethiye/Gocek, where we stayed for a few days. Though it was extraordinarily hot the whole time, we swam and drank beer to keep cool, which seemed to suit us all. And we gorged on some excellent Dutch cheese that Annika had kindly stuffed into her pack for us.

After only a few days, it seemed, it was time to see Annika on her way by bus back to Marmaris, then to Rhodes and home. We lingered a few more days in Gocek, but with one of the rare southerly winds of the area blowing, we decided to get back to Marmaris around the 20th.
